Parking and Transportation

Head-Royce School is located in a residential neighborhood. To mitigate the impact of the school on our neighbors' quality of life and to keep the School in compliance with the City of Oakland's requirements, we have created a set of traffic and parking rules outlined below. Everyone who drives to campus must follow these transportation guidelines 24/7.

Transportation Guide

Transportation Guide

All members of the Head-Royce School community must demonstrate responsible and thoughtful citizenship 24/7––not just during drop-off and pick-up times––by following the set of traffic and parking rules outlined in our Transportation Policy Guide (TPG). Staff will be stationed along Lincoln Avenue and nearby cross streets to monitor driving and parking behavior. Violating these guidelines puts the school at risk of losing its permit to operate.

Drivers are advised to keep speeds slow (15–20 mph) on side streets and should yield to walkers and bikers at all times. If you need to reverse direction on Lincoln Avenue, please keep in mind that the use of private driveways is strictly forbidden. U-turns and y-turns are also forbidden. Thank you for helping to keep our neighborhood safe!

Student and Visitor Parking

Student and Visitor Parking

Student drivers need to park either in the Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral Parking Pavilion (4700 Lincoln Ave) or on Lincoln Avenue above the Gatehouse (on the south side only, avoiding the carpool lane on the school side of Lincoln Avenue).

Visitors may also park in the Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral Parking Pavilion (4700 Lincoln Ave) on Levels 1 and 2, or in available spots on Lincoln Avenue above the Gatehouse. Visitors are NOT permitted to park in the neighborhood per our agreement with the City of Oakland. Please be sure to double-check all of the City's parking signs.

Please remember that you are a visitor in a residential neighborhood, so be courteous at all times to our neighbors and follow these guidelines:

  • Please do not block driveways, or use them to turn around, do not make U-turns on Lincoln Avenue, Alida Street, or Alida Court.
  • Do not park at the rear of the Campus, on Whittle or Funston Avenues.
  • To avoid being cited, do not park in bus zones, and note street cleaning signs.
  • Please respect our neighbors by following the Big 5 Driving Rules.

If you are here for an approved on-campus event, please remember:

1. Do not park in spots marked reserved at any time.

2. Do not park on Lincoln below the Gatehouse for any amount of time. You may not park there and wait for your child during dismissal.

Athletics Events Parking

Athletics Events Parking

For Athletic Events that take place on the field, the tennis courts, in the gym, or in the swimming pool, visitors and fans may park in Lot F after 3:30 pm. Game officials should try to park in the parking lot first; if that isn't available then find street parking and walk to the proper venue.

Be sure not to block in other cars that are parked in the tandem parking spaces in Parking Lot F.

Teams traveling by bus need to be dropped off on Lincoln Avenue.

Team buses are not allowed in any Head-Royce School parking lot.
